DKI Jakarta targets overall championship at 2028 Peparnas
The National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPCI) for DKI Jakarta Province is targeting the overall championship title at the 2028 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas). This target is higher than their achievement at Peparnas 2024. “Hopefully, we can improve our ranking from the top three in 2024; at the very least, if not second place, then overall champion at Peparnas 2028,” said Yasin Onasie, Chairman of NPCI DKI Jakarta, during the NPCI DKI Jakarta 2026 Provincial Work Meeting in Central Jakarta on Wednesday. To achieve this target, various preparations are underway, including strengthening all competing athletes through training and providing them with facilities. The Provincial Work Meeting itself was also held as part of the effort towards Peparnas 2028. Regarding the sports that Jakarta athletes will compete in, Yasin mentioned 15 out of the total 19 sports contested at Peparnas 2028. “The sports we will participate in for now at NPCI DKI are 15. There are 19 in total, but there are four sports we have not developed yet due to budget constraints, because they are team sports,” Yasin explained. “We want to know what the road map looks like, so the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can budget for it more effectively. The goal is achievement,” said Zuhud. He further encouraged NPCI DKI to start engaging private sectors for financial support. “Let’s invite the private sector, so we can work hand-in-hand, synergising to develop sports, especially for people with disabilities,” Zuhud stated. Previously, at Peparnas 2024 in Solo, Central Java, the DKI Jakarta contingent placed third with a haul of 39 gold medals, 29 silver medals, and 36 bronze medals. Additionally, DKI Jakarta athletes broke records in three sports: Para Athletics, Para Shooting, and Para Swimming.
