DKI Jakarta strengthens tourism industry through master plan and collaboration
The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) is working to strengthen the tourism industry, particularly the hospitality sector, through the development of a tourism master plan covering short, medium, and long-term periods, alongside collaborations with various stakeholders.
“The Tourism Master Plan essentially outlines where the tourism industry in Jakarta will be headed in the long term, beyond 10 years,” said Syarif Hidayat, Head of the Tourism Business Subgroup at Disparekraf Jakarta, during an online event monitored in Jakarta on Thursday.
Syarif noted that Jakarta’s tourism industry has begun to recover following the slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing various strategies to reinforce the industry through policy and regulation, including the formulation of the tourism master plan.
Another effort being undertaken is the provision of relaxation or tax incentives on certain goods and services (PBJT) for hotel services, in the form of reductions in the principal tax amount.
“The hotel industry was previously sluggish. The Jakarta Provincial Government’s policies include tax relaxation and incentives,” said Syarif.
Regarding accessibility, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also integrating public transport around hotels and existing tourism hubs in Jakarta. This aims to facilitate easier mobility for tourists during their holidays in the capital.
In terms of marketing and promotion, the Jakarta Provincial Government is partnering with influencers to promote Jakarta’s tourism industries.
“As seen recently with ‘Mudik ke Jakarta’ (Returning to Jakarta), Malaysian tourists and influencers from Malaysia visited Jakarta to promote several of the city’s tourist attractions,” Syarif added.
Through the ‘Mudik ke Jakarta’ programme, the Jakarta Provincial Government, in conjunction with the Indonesian Travel Agent Association (Astindo) and the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB), is selling holiday packages within the city.
“We are creating bundled packages, so it is not just about hotels, but also includes recreational sites and various tourist attractions,” said Syarif.
