DKI Jakarta Seeks to Provide Parking Spaces for Online Motorcycle Taxis in Commercial Areas
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta will coordinate with online motorcycle taxi (ojol) communities and building managers to discuss the provision of parking spaces for ojol drivers in commercial areas, office districts, and other locations prone to illegal parking.
“Perhaps within the next week we will also invite our friends (the ojol community) to discuss this with operators and building managers,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, while leading a briefing at Jakarta City Hall on Sunday.
This coordination and synergy will also be directed towards strengthening education on traffic safety and order, including appeals against illegal parking, riding against the flow of traffic, and ensuring vehicle documents are complete.
This effort follows up on illegal parking enforcement activities in Jakarta, while also aiming to build orderly and safe traffic management on the ground.
However, the enforcement activity was marked by an incident when transportation agency officers took action against a motorcycle owner parked on the pavement on Jalan Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/6). One of the vehicles turned out to belong to an ojol driver who arrived after his motorcycle had been loaded onto a transport truck.
“On that very day, Mr Sulis or Mr Agung retrieved his motorbike by simply making a written statement promising not to repeat the offence, and no fees were charged whatsoever,” he said.
On that occasion, ojol community representative Beno stated his readiness to synergise with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency to promote order on the roads while strengthening education for drivers.
“Going forward, we want issues like this to be resolved through communication and deliberation. We will also continue to remind fellow drivers to respect the rules and maintain order on the roads,” he said.
