DKI Jakarta Roundup: Vehicle Tax Amnesty to Overturned Lorry

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing vehicle tax amnesty programme, which runs until August. “A tax amnesty is not necessarily available every year. This momentum should be utilised, because if you don’t take advantage of it, it’s a loss,” Pramono said when met in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Governor also revealed that the provincial government plans to build 11 large-capacity apartment blocks in 2027. The decision was made after Pramono approved the allocation for the flat construction during the administration’s budget discussions.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta administration is evaluating the organisation of the Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) following the death of a participant, suspected to be from a heart attack and dehydration. Pramono stated that improvements would be made, particularly regarding medical care and health service availability, despite a 35 percent increase in medical personnel compared to the previous year.

In a separate development, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP3MI) in DKI Jakarta recorded high enthusiasm from the public seeking overseas job opportunities, especially in Japan, during a job fair at the Tanjung Duren Sports Hall. An official noted that many visitors consulted at the BP3MI booth, although most initially lacked basic information about overseas placement schemes.

Elsewhere, a lorry carrying construction iron overturned on the Tomang flyover in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident, which occurred around 4.30 a.m. local time as the vehicle was travelling from the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road towards Tanjung Priok, caused its load to spill onto the road below, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.
