A number of notable events marked Jakarta on Tuesday (17 February), ranging from Lunar New Year celebrations to a ban on discotheque operations during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

Here are five selected stories worth revisiting:

**The Story of a Muslim Biokong at Amurva Bhumi Temple**

Amid the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year celebrations, activities at Amurva Bhumi Temple in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, proceeded with both solemnity and warmth. Worshippers arrived in turns to pray, whilst temple administrators ensured everything ran smoothly.

Behind the scenes, the figure of Zaini Arifin drew particular attention — a Biokong, or daily temple caretaker, whose background as a Muslim who has served at the place of worship for 15 years made him a notable presence.

**Chinatown Festival Enlivens Lunar New Year at TMII**

The Chinatown Festival, held from 14 to 17 February, brought festive cheer to the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta.

"We began our Lunar New Year week at Taman Mini from 14 to 17 February 2026. As part of the celebrations, we organised various events related to Chinese culture and Lunar New Year traditions," said TMII Park Management Group Head Suherman Asrat at TMII, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

**Discotheques in Jakarta Required to Close Until Second Day After Eid**

The DKI Jakarta provincial government has mandated that nightclubs, discotheques, steam baths, massage parlours, manual and electronic amusement arcades for adults, and bars must close from one day before Ramadan through to one day after the second day of Eid al-Fitr.

However, exemptions apply to businesses located in four- and five-star hotels as well as certain commercial zones, on the condition that they are not situated near residential areas, places of worship, schools or hospitals.

**Ancol Targets 30,000 Visitors for Lunar New Year**

The management of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol targeted 30,000 visitors to the family tourism destination in North Jakarta on the 2026 Lunar New Year on Tuesday.

"On Lunar New Year today, we estimate more than 30,000 people will enjoy the various events at Ancol Taman Impian," said PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk Communications representative Daniel Windriatmoko in Jakarta.

He said that to mark the occasion, Ancol Taman Impian adopted the theme "Ancol Lunar Festival", running from 14 to 17 February 2026.

**Child-Friendly Tourism Draws Lunar New Year Holiday Crowds to TMII**

Child-friendly attractions at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) proved a major draw and a favourite choice for families during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday.

"We specifically planned to bring the children here because apart from the lion dances, TMII also has many places to see and learn about," said visitor Dzulhidwanda Rusadi (35) from Karawang, at TMII, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

In addition to cultural performances, TMII was also praised for its diverse educational attractions suitable for children.
