DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to stage Wayang Orang Bharata performance again this weekend

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will again stage the Wayang Orang Bharata performance on 7 March 2026 at 20:00 WIB at the Wayang Orang Bharata Performance Hall, Senen, Central Jakarta.

This time, the Wayang Orang Bharata performance will present the lakon ‘Bagong Kembar’.

The staging of ‘Bagong Kembar’ is the third performance in 2026 conducted in cooperation with the Paguyuban Wayang Orang Bharata,” said Rinaldi, Head of the Unit for the Management of the Gedung Pertunjukan Seni Budaya (UP GPSB) of the DKI Jakarta Culture Department, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday.

The public does not need to part with money to watch the performance as tickets are free.

The audience quota for the Wayang Orang Bharata performance stands at 220 people, in line with the seating capacity.

‘Bagong Kembar’ tells the story of the ruler of the Goa Siluman Kingdom named Prabu Kala Parungga who is in love with Candrawati, daughter of Prabu Candrakusuma. Prabu Kala Parungga intends to marry Candrawati. However, Dewi Candrawati is to be married to Bagong. With the help of Batara Kala, Prabu Kala Parungga is transformed into Bagong, who is then accepted into the Kingdom of Candra Manggala and will marry the woman he adores. However, the real Bagong arrives and, by the decision of Prabu Candrakusuma, the two Bagongs (the twin Bagongs) must fight, and the winner will become Candrawati’s fiancé.

Rinaldi said the Wayang Orang Bharata Performing Arts Building is one of the cultural performance venues managed by the DKI Jakarta Culture Department through UP GPSB. The building can be used by the arts and culture sector in general.

Regarding the Wayang Orang Bharata performances at the venue, there is a regular schedule of performances conducted in collaboration with the Paguyuban Wayang Orang Bharata and tickets are issued free for spectators.

However, at times performances at the Gedung Kesenian Wayang Orang Bharata are staged independently by other users for arts and culture performances under the asset utilisation scheme of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government that does not interfere with the delivery of the tasks and functions of the SKPD, in accordance with applicable regulations.

“In short, besides the regular Wayang Orang Bharata performances, there are also other cultural performances by third parties held at the Gedung Kesenian Wayang Orang Bharata, which allow ticket pricing under the asset utilisation cooperation scheme of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in line with applicable regulations,” Rinaldi said.
