DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Extends Remote Learning Until Tomorrow

JAKARTA – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to extend remote learning (PJJ) for all schools in the capital until Tuesday (8/9/2026). The decision was taken to ensure pupils remain safe from exposure to volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the spread of volcanic ash in Jakarta on Monday (7/9/2026) had decreased considerably compared with the previous day. Even so, he did not wish to immediately end the PJJ already in place that day, as volcanic ash remained dispersed across a number of areas.

“We still need one more day to extend this Remote Learning, or PJJ, until tomorrow, so that PJJ in Jakarta will continue until tomorrow,” he said at the DKI Jakarta City Hall on Monday afternoon.

He said he had instructed the Provincial Education Office (Disdik) to follow up on the decision, as his statement alone could not immediately become policy.

“Later I will ask the Head of the Education Office to follow up, because in Jakarta my statement alone is not sufficient; there must be a circular from the Head of the Education Office to regulate the matter,” said Pramono.

Jakarta is known to be one of the areas affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. Volcanic ash was detected in Jakarta from the early hours of Sunday (6/9/2026). Consequently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government decided to implement PJJ for all schools on Monday.

Even so, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government did not issue a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN), including teachers. ASN within the provincial administration continue to work as usual while observing health protocols.

“Since conditions have improved, tomorrow ASN will work as usual — in fact today they were already required to come in as normal, we simply asked them to wear masks. So there is no new arrangement for ASN tomorrow; the only extension is for the PJJ,” said Pramono.
