DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Expresses Condolences Over Kampung Dukuh Fire Incident
The Jakarta Provincial Government has expressed profound condolences following the passing of Andriyono, a squad leader from the Cipayung Sector, while on duty managing a rubbish fire on Jalan Penggilingan Baru, Dukuh, East Jakarta.
The Head of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Bayu Megantara, stated that the department received the fire report on Saturday (2/8). “We express our deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and will ensure that all his rights are fulfilled in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Bayu Megantara in Jakarta on Sunday (2/8).
In response to the report, 10 fire engines and 50 personnel were deployed to the site. During the operation, the deceased was tasked with locating water sources to support the firefighting efforts and was not directly at the fire’s front line. “While connecting hoses, the deceased suddenly complained of chest pains. Colleagues immediately sought medical assistance. He received initial treatment on-site before being evacuated to Harapan Bunda Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 PM WIB. The deceased reportedly had a history of heart disease,” Bayu explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Office (Kominfotik), Marulina Dewi, who inspected the site on Sunday, noted that the Fire and Rescue Service is still conducting cooling operations to prevent residual embers from spreading beneath the rubbish piles. Although the main flames have been extinguished, the nature of the burning material requires ongoing monitoring, as embers can remain active deep within the pile.
Marulina added that firefighters have been opening sections of the rubbish heap to allow water to reach the lower layers. Simultaneously, the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) has begun removing waste from areas declared safe and unaffected by the fire.
Marulina clarified that the location was not an official landfill but is frequently used for illegal dumping, leading to the accumulation of waste. “In line with post-fire management, the Jakarta Environmental Agency will carry out waste removal in stages. The first stage involves areas that are safe and unaffected. Subsequent removal will continue in the fire-affected area once it is declared safe by the Fire and Fire and Rescue Service,” said the Head of Kominfotik.
Marulina also urged the public to refrain from dumping waste in unauthorised locations, reminding citizens that the Provincial Government has clear regulations and is actively promoting changes in waste management patterns. “In accordance with Governor’s Instruction Number 5 of 2026, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to encourage changes in waste management through the ‘sort, collect, process, and utilise’ movement, having prepared various processing facilities, including TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) sites, so that only residual waste is sent to the Bantargebang landfill,” Marulina stated.
To prevent the recurrence of illegal dumping, Marulina emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government will tighten supervision. “Starting Monday, Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) from the Environmental Agency and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will conduct investigations at the fire site. Those found responsible for illegal dumping will face strict sanctions,” she concluded.
