DKI Jakarta Prepares Two Relocation Sites for Kebayoran Lama Selatan Primary School Students
The South Jakarta Education Sub-Office (Sudin) Region I has prepared two schools as temporary relocation sites for pupils of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi and SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11. The move comes as plans proceed to rebuild the school buildings, which are severely damaged.
“We plan for the pupils of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 to go to SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 03, and those of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11 to SDN Kebayoran Lama Utara 03,” said Santoso, Head of Sudin Pendidikan Wilayah I South Jakarta, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8).
Santoso explained that the physical reconstruction project for the state primary schools is targeted to begin no later than September 2026. Throughout the construction period, all teaching and learning activities (KBM) will move to the temporary locations.
The relocation of pupils will be carried out in stages as the project approaches its initial phase, namely the demolition and levelling of the old buildings.
“When the building levelling process is about to begin, we will make sure the pupils have already been moved,” Santoso stressed.
Regarding the target duration for completing the physical works, Santoso left the matter entirely to the technical team from the service provider handling the project.
“As for the construction process itself, the appointed technical team will be able to explain,” he added.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has designed the new buildings with a vertical concept. The step is intended to combine the physical facilities and management of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 and SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11 within one integrated area.
Through the vertical building concept, the DKI Provincial Government aims to optimise limited land in the urban area. As a result, the space saved on the building footprint can be converted into wider open areas for pupils’ activities and interaction.
Beyond spatial efficiency, integrating the two schools under a single management is expected to deliver educational governance that is more effective, efficient and responsive.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the total rehabilitation of SDN 09 Kebayoran Lama Selatan will begin in September 2026 and is targeted for completion by July 2027.
Governor Pramono Anung apologised to the public for only recently becoming aware that SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 had collapsed back in 2024.
South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo said the damage to SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 was triggered by the age of the building, which was built in 1974.
The SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 building collapsed in November 2024. Hundreds of pupils have been accommodated at other schools whilst merger and repair plans are prepared.
Governor Pramono Anung inspected the site of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09, which collapsed in late 2024.
Pramono admitted he had only just learned of the condition of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09, which has remained damaged and unrepaired for nearly two years.
Pramono affirmed that SD Negeri 09 Kebayoran Lama is one of the schools prioritised for immediate reconstruction.
