DKI Jakarta Prepares Land in Banten for Organic Waste Processing

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has acquired a plot of land in Ciangir, Legok, Banten, to serve as a site for processing organic waste. Governor Pramono Anung stated that the 40-hectare site is part of an integrated waste management ecosystem designed to reduce the load on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). Meanwhile, inorganic waste will be processed through other facilities, including those producing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for cement factories. As part of the transition, the Jakarta administration will gradually implement a controlled landfill system at TPST Bantargebang starting 1 August 2026. This move aims to end open dumping practices and improve environmental safety. According to the roadmap developed with the Ministry of Environment, open dumping currently dominates Bantargebang’s operations, but the target is to reduce this to 50.34 percent by the third and fourth quarters of 2026, while increasing controlled landfill and processing facility usage.
