DKI Jakarta Ministry of Religious Affairs highlights Idul Adha as opportunity to foster social solidarity

The Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kanwil Kemenag DKI Jakarta) stated that Idul Adha is an opportunity to foster social solidarity among communities, reflected in the recommendation to share sacrificial meat.

“The social dimension of the sacrificial ritual is evident, hence Islam strongly encourages Muslims who are able to perform the sacrifice,” said Kanwil Kemenag DKI Jakarta Head Adib when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Adib further stated that amid challenging social and economic conditions, the meaning of the sacrificial ritual is crucial for building solidarity among communities by continuously increasing care and togetherness.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar said this year’s theme aligns with the ministry’s major themes of eco-theology and theology of love.

The theme is expected to inspire imams and Indonesian Muslim communities to strengthen environmental care and humanitarian values through the sacrificial ritual.

Additionally, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government distributed 210 sacrificial cows and 10 goats this year, an increase from last year’s 160 cows.

“Last year, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government distributed 160 cows, this year it’s 210 cows and 10 goats. Details: 160 cows from state-owned enterprises, 44 from Baznas and Bazis, and 6 from HIPMI,” said DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno at the Perumda Dharma Jaya Animal Slaughterhouse in Penggilingan, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, 26 May.
