DKI Jakarta Legislator Says Pancasila Anchors Youth

Yuke Yurike, Chair of Commission D of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI), urged young people to use Pancasila’s birthday commemoration as an opportunity to strengthen patriotism and apply national values in daily life.

‘Amid rapid modernisation, Pancasila serves as an anchor keeping us grounded in national values,’ Yuke said in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Yuke, Pancasila is not merely historical knowledge to be memorised but must be put into practice, especially in the complex dynamics of urban life.

Yuke noted that today’s youth face different challenges compared to the struggles of past heroes. While Indonesia once fought colonisation, young people now contend with the flood of digital information, rising individualism, and social issues such as online gambling and mental health crises.

‘Jakarta is a microcosm of Indonesia, where all ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds converge. I urge Jakarta’s youth to love Pancasila through practical, modern approaches,’ she said.

Yuke explained that one way to ground Pancasila’s values is by embracing the fifth principle: social justice for all Indonesians. She encouraged youth to engage in positive activities, from joining communities and social actions to fostering care for others.

’ Loving Pancasila can mean creative collaboration, maintaining tolerance on social media, avoiding street fights, and caring for the local environment. Do not let individualism erode the culture of mutual assistance that defines our national identity,’ she added.

Furthermore, Yuke confirmed that the Jakarta DPRD will continue to push the local government to create more youth-friendly public spaces. She stated these spaces can serve as platforms for positive interaction and nurturing national values, tolerance, and inclusivity.
