DKI Jakarta legislator says Idul Adha is a moment for reflection on sacrifice
JAKARTA (ANTARA) - DKI Jakarta legislative council member Hardiyanto Kenneth stated that the sacrificial ritual during Idul Adha embodies significant values such as sincerity, sacrifice, obedience, and mutual care, which are highly relevant to national and state life. ‘Idul Adha teaches us the meaning of sacrifice for greater interests and steadfastness in facing life’s trials,’ Kenneth said in a statement on Thursday in Jakarta. He added that the 1447 Hijriah Idul Adha serves as a spiritual moment and a reminder to strengthen social care, particularly in the context of urban life dynamics in Jakarta. As a people’s representative, the man commonly known as Bang Kent views Idul Adha not merely as an annual religious ritual. He said the holiday is a profound reflection that every mandate from the public must be fulfilled with sincerity and responsibility. According to the member of the DKI Jakarta Legislative Council’s Commission C, these sacrificial values are crucial and relevant to maintain in Jakarta’s diverse society. Especially as the capital faces real urban challenges such as social inequality, economic issues, and increasingly individualistic modern lifestyles. Kent emphasised that the distribution of sacrificial meat is a tangible symbol that welfare must be shared, particularly among the most vulnerable communities. ‘Idul Adha brings a strong message to break down social barriers through solidarity,’ he said. On the other hand, as a national hub inhabited by a highly diverse population, Jakarta needs a strong social foundation to remain harmonious. Urban progress should not be measured solely by physical aspects. ‘I believe a strong society is built not only by infrastructure progress but also by robust humanistic values and empathy among citizens. Therefore, we must uphold the spirit of mutual assistance, tolerance, and helping one another,’ he said. He hopes the spirit of sacrifice and sincerity taught during Idul Adha will inspire everyone to work, serve, and contribute the best for society. ‘Let us use Idul Adha as an opportunity to strengthen brotherhood, enhance social care, and build a more just, humane, and prosperous Jakarta for all its residents,’ he added.
