DKI Jakarta Launches Free Mudik Programme with 744 Buses for 35,000 Travellers to 20 Cities
Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government formally launched its free mudik programme for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr celebration, transporting thousands of homecoming travellers to various regions.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, alongside Vice Governor Rano Karno, directly dispatched 744 buses, marking the beginning of the homecoming exodus from the capital to various destinations.
Governor Pramono and Vice Governor Rano raised flags to signal the commencement of passenger departures. Passengers aboard the buses were observed waving their hands towards the officials and personnel overseeing their departure.
Pramono highlighted that this year’s free mudik programme experienced a significantly increased number of participants compared to the previous year. In total, 744 buses were dispatched to 20 cities across six provinces.
“Alhamdulillah, this year’s free mudik programme has seen a significant increase in numbers. Approximately 35,000 participants and 744 buses are heading to 20 cities across six provinces. This represents a 34 per cent increase compared to last year,” Pramono stated.
He also reminded travellers to maintain safety and order during their journey back to their hometowns.
“We wish to convey our hopes for the mudik participants. Whoever is returning to their hometown, we ask that you remain orderly and maintain your security and comfort throughout the journey,” he said.
“Whether you wish to return home or come back to Jakarta, Jakarta is open to anyone. However, do not expect promises or guarantees that not everyone can achieve by competing in Jakarta,” Pramono added.
He further assured that there would be no crackdowns targeting newcomers to the city. Pramono emphasised that Jakarta remains open to all, noting that many successful individuals in Jakarta originally came from the regions.
“I observe that almost everyone sitting in front of me came to Jakarta to seek their fortune, including the governor and vice governor,” he continued.
Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta Transportation Department Head Syafrin Liputo stated that the 2026 DKI Jakarta Free Mudik Programme carries the theme “From Jakarta for Family.”
Mudik participants were dispatched using buses to 20 destination cities across six provinces: South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and East Java.
