DKI Jakarta: GAMAS Programme Stresses Importance of Father's Role in Family Communication
The DKI Jakarta Child Protection and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) believes the Fathers Taking Children to School Movement (GAMAS) instils the importance of a father’s role in family communication. “We are trying to ensure fathers are present to accompany their children, to build an ideal family,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Dwi Oktavia after a GAMAS event at SLBN 02 Jakarta, Lenteng Agung, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday. Dwi stated that the family is the first place where children learn life values, making communication through the application of eight family functions crucial. Through these eight functions, which include religion, love, protection, education, socio-culture, economy, reproduction, and the environment, every family member can grow up healthy, happy, and mutually supportive. “All family members need to be involved, especially the role of parents, to build communication,” she said. The PPAPP is therefore encouraging community participation, particularly from fathers, to take their children to school. This role also extends to civil servants (ASN), with the DKI Provincial Government issuing an instruction to facilitate their attendance. The Provincial Government issued Circular Letter Number 22/SE/2026 concerning Permission to Take Children to School on the First Day of School, following up on a circular from the Minister of Population and Family Development/BKKBN. “For ASN within the DKI Provincial Government, there is an instruction from the Regional Secretary for fathers to take the time today, or on their child’s first day of school, to escort them,” she said. Head of SLBN 02 Jakarta, Dedeh Kurniasih, hopes this activity will enhance the role of fathers in parenting and create an environment that supports optimal growth and development. This event is a follow-up to the Fathers Taking Children’s Report Cards Movement (GEMAR) and part of the Fathers Taking Children on the First Day of School Movement (GAMAS). “Hopefully, this activity will have a positive impact on all of us, especially for SLB Negeri 02 Jakarta,” she said. SLB Negeri 02 Jakarta guides 230 students with disabilities from elementary to high school level, training them with skills to live independently in the future.
