DKI Jakarta Free Mudik Programme Surges to 30,000 Participants
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has recorded a significant surge in passenger numbers for its free mudik programme, with participant numbers reaching more than 30,000 individuals.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that strong public interest has caused participant quotas to far exceed the initial government projections. “The number of homecomers has increased. Originally, we estimated only 26,000, but due to high enthusiasm, the number that has now been verified and approved by us stands at 30,774 homecomers,” stated Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March.
To accommodate the tens of thousands of registered citizens, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government immediately took action to adjust capacity by increasing the transportation fleet. To ensure all verified homecomers can safely return to their hometowns, Pramono emphasised that hundreds of additional bus units have been fully mobilised. “709 buses, up from the previous 670. So now 709 buses are being prepared by the DKI Jakarta Government,” Pramono stated.
The Head of DKI Jakarta’s Transportation Office (Kadishub), Syafrin Liputo, confirmed that departure quotas have been officially closed. The increase in bus fleet from approximately 670 vehicles to 709 is exclusively dedicated to serving participants whose data has been validated, meaning no new registrations will be opened. “From 26,282, it increased to 30,774 verified homecomers. Because of the bus shortage, those who have been verified are the ones who will be dispatched. So there will be no further announcements as everything has been recorded and verified,” stated Syafrin Liputo firmly.
With the number of participants and fleet confirmed, Pramono indicated that dispatches for free mudik participants heading to various destinations will commence shortly. He also stated that the gathering point for this year’s annual free mudik programme will be centralised at the National Monument (Monas). “The Transportation Office has prepared the mudik programme facilitated by the DKI Jakarta Government to commence on 17 March at Monas,” said Pramono.
