Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta ensures that the handling of the male baby found in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, proceeds quickly and in accordance with child protection procedures.

“What is most important at the moment is to ensure the baby is healthy and receives proper protection. The government is present to ensure that every child in need of help receives rapid, safe, and humane treatment,” said Iqbal Akbarudin, head of the DKI Jakarta Social Service Department, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

The baby was first found by a teacher named Maryono (44) who arrived in front of Tarakanita I Elementary School, Kebayoran Baru, on Wednesday (4/3) early morning. The baby was found alive inside a blue paper bag and wrapped in floral-patterned cloth.

The baby was immediately taken to Kebayoran Baru Health Centre (Puskesmas Kebayoran Baru) for an initial health examination. Based on the initial examination, the baby’s condition was reported as healthy and it is estimated that the baby is not yet a week old.

Iqbal said his department moved quickly after receiving the report from the local health facility. The Social Service, Supervision, and Control Service Officers (P3S) of the South Jakarta City Administration’s Social Service Unit who were on duty at the CSW Post immediately followed up the report from Kebayoran Baru Puskesmas.

“The baby was then referred to Kebayoran Baru Regional General Hospital (RSUD Kebayoran Baru) for further medical examination and treatment,” he said.

Iqbal stressed that the DKI Provincial Government ensures the baby receives protection and proper care in accordance with applicable regulations.

He then urged the public who have information related to the neglect of the baby to convey it to the authorities, so that the handling process can be carried out comprehensively in accordance with the law and child-protection provisions.
