JAKARTA — Commission C of the DKI Jakarta Regional Legislative Council has highlighted the significant potential of utilising space in public transport facilities such as MRT Jakarta and TransJakarta to boost local revenue (PAD), particularly through non-farebox revenue schemes. Commission C member Suhud Alynudin stated that regional state-owned enterprises (BUMDs) have substantial space to be developed as alternative revenue sources beyond taxes and levies, which have long been the mainstay of the Jakarta Provincial Government. Assets and public facilities managed by BUMDs can be optimised for commercial activities such as advertising and promotional partnerships with private entities, without disrupting the core functions of public transport services. Public space utilisation can be implemented through various partnership schemes, including ad placements, branding, and other commercial collaborations that add value to regional revenue. Suhud viewed the local government’s push to optimise these assets as an innovative step worthy of appreciation amid growing demands for increased regional revenue. “I believe what the Governor has proposed is an effort and step to generate regional revenue by utilising spaces or land where businesses can advertise or promote their products,” he said. The development of non-farebox revenue schemes must be handled carefully to avoid disrupting the primary function of public transport services, which are vital for the general public. Suhud also stressed the importance of thorough regulation and studies for all asset utilisation policies, including determining the nature of partnerships with private entities. “This is an effort and step to generate regional revenue through the utilisation of spaces and land,” he reiterated, reinforcing the policy direction. Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has pledged to continuously monitor all PAD enhancement innovations, including BUMD asset optimisation such as MRT Jakarta and TransJakarta, ensuring alignment with public interests and good governance practices.
