JAKARTA – Commission C of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives has highlighted the substantial assets and budget of the Jakarta provincial government, while pushing for innovative revenue management through creative financing.

Suhud Alynudin, a member of Commission C from the PKS faction, stated that Jakarta currently holds the largest regional budget in Indonesia at around Rp81 trillion, alongside assets valued at over Rp700 trillion. He said these figures present a challenge in ensuring effective financial management that truly benefits the public.

He emphasised the need for thorough planning and management, particularly to optimise the province’s extensive assets. “This is a challenge for Jakarta with such a large budget and substantial assets. It requires sound management and planning to ensure the budget effectively serves the public and accelerates residents’ welfare,” he said.

Alynudin noted that while current revenue management is on track, there is room for improvement. “We are continuously pushing to increase Jakarta’s local revenue,” he added.

Amid challenging economic conditions, he said creative financing is a breakthrough approach to generate higher revenue. “To boost revenue, we are encouraging regional state-owned enterprises such as the MRT and TransJakarta to utilise non-farebox revenue opportunities, such as available space for advertising, as a source of income for the region,” he explained.

He added that utilising public spaces for advertising and commercial partnerships is a viable step. “The governor’s approach of allowing businesses to advertise on public spaces is a step towards generating regional revenue. As he said, as long as it’s paid for, it can be used, but we still need to assess other aspects,” Alynudin said.

He also warned of potential social impacts if public spaces become dominated by specific identities, including political parties. “Political parties vary in financial strength, with some able to cover entire locations. There could also be psychological effects on residents if city corners are filled with party campaign materials,” he said.

Nevertheless, Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has praised the executive branch’s innovative efforts to boost Jakarta’s regional revenue.
