Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that enthusiasm for organised mass homecoming trips ahead of Eid al-Fitr — from both the private sector and government ministries — is particularly high this year, prompting coordination with the Ministry of Transport to stagger departure schedules and prevent severe congestion.

“It turns out that this time the enthusiasm for organised homecoming trips by both the private sector and ministries is quite high,” Pramono said at City Hall on Thursday.

The governor said the organised homecoming schedule would commence from mid-March. “Starting from around the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and so on. Because Work From Everywhere begins on the 13th. This is what we are using to manage the organised homecoming trips from Jakarta,” he said.

On Wednesday (18 February), Pramono met with Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi to discuss preparations for the 2026 Lebaran transport season.

According to Dudy, DKI Jakarta province is one of the regions with the highest population movement nationally. The majority of national homecoming journeys originate from West Java and DKI Jakarta, with the most popular destinations including Central Java, East Java, West Java and Yogyakarta.

Given the enormous potential for population movement from DKI Jakarta, Dudy requested the provincial government provide a range of support measures to ensure smooth Lebaran transport operations in 2026.

“Among other things, we hope for the establishment of service and monitoring posts for the 2026 Lebaran Transport operation, to ensure fleet readiness through ramp checks and transport hub preparedness — particularly Type A terminals — health checks for vehicle crew and drivers, as well as consolidation and preparation of free homecoming services,” he said.

Dudy also urged the Jakarta provincial government to improve access to and services for feeder transport for homecoming travellers.

Furthermore, he said traffic surveillance, control and engineering measures needed to be implemented on a conditional basis, including deploying security personnel at congestion-prone and crowded points with CCTV monitoring, ensuring the readiness of alternative routes, and guaranteeing smooth journeys for travellers.

Finally, Dudy requested additional public facilities at the busiest transport hubs, such as food stalls, vehicle repair workshops and portable toilets to support passenger comfort.

According to the 2026 Lebaran Transport Movement Potential Survey, projected traffic leaving Jakarta through the Cikampek Utama, Kalihurip Utama and Cikupa toll gates during the Lebaran transport period (H-10 to H+11) is expected to reach 3.67 million vehicles. Peak outbound traffic is predicted on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 (H-3), with an estimated 259,000 vehicles.

Meanwhile, projected traffic entering Jakarta through the Cikampek Utama, Kalihurip, Ciawi and Cikupa toll gates during the same period is forecast at 3.54 million vehicles, with peak return traffic predicted on Monday, 24 March 2026 (H+3), at approximately 285,000 vehicles.
