DKI Jakarta Collaborates with Academics to Formulate Regional Development Policies
The Jakarta Provincial Government, in collaboration with academics, is currently formulating regional development policies to transition Jakarta into a competitive, sustainable, and prosperous global city.
“There are three major themes we are highlighting: infrastructure, environment, and socio-economics,” said Maruhal Mangasi Tunas Sijabat, Head of the Regional Research and Innovation Centre of the Jakarta Provincial Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, Bapperal Jakarta, together with Sampoerna University, is organising the International Symposium 2026 under the theme “Towards Jakarta 500: Building a Resilient and Inclusive City.”
He stated that the discussion is an effort by the regional government to identify and refine policies by involving academics in determining future steps.
“This includes schemes such as Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), or partial regional bonds, essentially a mix of the Regional Budget (APBD), the State Budget (APBN), or regional bonds,” he noted.
Maruhal mentioned that these matters are still within the discussion phase involving academics, and whether the results of these discussions can be executed into policy will ultimately depend on the leadership.
“We are formulating these because this is the forum; present here are representatives from the central government, regional government, researchers, academics, lecturers, the community, and financing institutions such as the ADB and the World Bank,” he said.
Regarding this, Sampoerna University is taking proactive steps to refine the necessary policies for Jakarta, ensuring the focus is not solely on infrastructure but covers all sectors.
“We are considering what should be produced; our vision is truly neutral, focusing on how knowledge can be transformed into evidence-based policy,” he added.
He concluded that the discussion aims to find common ground in addressing the various challenges and issues facing Jakarta.
