DKI Jakarta Builds Pump House in Rawa Buaya to Tackle Flooding
The Jakarta Provincial Government has cleared buildings on the banks of the Mookervart River in the Rawa Buaya area, West Jakarta, to prepare for the construction of the Rawa Buaya Pump House. Head of the West Jakarta City Water Resources Sub-Department, Mustajab, stated that the enforcement was a follow-up to the directive of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who previously inspected the flood location in January 2026. “This land clearing on the Mookervart Riverbank in the Rawa Buaya area is part of the follow-up to Governor Pramono Anung’s directive after he directly inspected the flood location in January 2026,” Mustajab said in a written statement on Tuesday (23/6). He said the Governor’s directive is part of efforts to accelerate the construction of flood control infrastructure deemed necessary by the community. “To support the construction of the Rawa Buaya Pump House, the Jakarta Provincial Government is clearing buildings located on the land to be used for the pump house construction,” he stated. Mustajab emphasised that the entire enforcement process was carried out according to applicable procedures. Prior to the demolition, the government issued Warning Letters I, II, and III to the building owners. The operation involved 150 joint personnel, along with heavy equipment such as excavators and dump trucks to support the demolition process. Mustajab expressed appreciation for the cooperative attitude of residents during the activity. “We appreciate the cooperative attitude of the building occupants who supported this enforcement process, allowing the activity to proceed safely, orderly, and smoothly. This support demonstrates a shared commitment to realising flood control infrastructure that will benefit the community,” he said. The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes the construction of the Rawa Buaya Pump House will increase the capacity to control inundation in the Rawa Buaya area and its surroundings. “Through the construction of the Rawa Buaya Pump House, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that the capacity to control inundation in the Rawa Buaya area and its surroundings can be improved, thereby minimising flood risk and enhancing the quality of the urban environment,” he stated. Meanwhile, Ade Sulistian, Head of RT 003 RW 001 Rawa Buaya, expressed gratitude for the pump house construction. He noted that the pump house is urgently needed by residents and that requests for its construction had been submitted since previous gubernatorial administrations. He said residents in his area are pleased with the construction of the pump house as a flood control measure. “Personally, I have wanted a pump house for a long time, even before the previous administration,” Ade said in the same statement. Last January, Governor Pramono inspected the flooding in Rawa Buaya and instructed the Water Resources Department to increase water pump capacity in the area.
