DKI Jakarta Boosts Economic Independence of Flat Residents Through RusunPreneur Programme
The Jakarta Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) is boosting the economic independence of residents in simple rental flats (rusunawa) through the RusunPreneur programme.
"One of the programmes initiated by the PPKUKM Department is Rusunpreneur. Relocating residents to flats is not just about moving the people, but also concerns how their economic lives can continue," said Juremi, Head of the Small and Medium Enterprises Division at the DKI Jakarta PPKUKM Department, during an online event monitored in Jakarta on Friday.
RusunPreneur is a follow-up to Governor’s Instruction Number 131 of 2016 concerning the Optimisation of Rusunawa Management in DKI Jakarta Province and Governor’s Instruction Number 116 of 2016 regarding the Empowerment of Flat Resident Communities through the Growth of Small and Medium Industries and Creative Industries.
"This (RusunPreneur) encourages the growth of creative industries within the flat environment. There are activities on how to empower the community so that they not only have decent housing but also possess economic empowerment," Juremi explained.
Training provided through the RusunPreneur programme includes weaving, knitting, batik making, and meatball production.
According to data from the DKI Jakarta PPKUKM Department, weaving and knitting training involved 695 participants. Weaving achieved a turnover of up to IDR 27 million, while knitting reached IDR 4,019,000.
Furthermore, batik making training involved 210 participants, with a turnover of IDR 26,085,000, whereas meatball production involved 228 participants with a turnover reaching IDR 18,985,500.
Through the RusunPreneur programme, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes flat residents can develop their potential, create marketable products, and contribute to strengthening the local economy.
