DKI Jakarta Bans Temporary Waste Collection Points, Overhauls Waste Disposal System
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has banned the placement of Temporary Waste Storage Points (TPS) and will reorganise the waste disposal routes in the capital. This decision was made by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo following a viral video showing a waste transport vehicle from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) allegedly dumping its load into the Pesanggrahan River in the area of the Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery, South Jakarta. “Temporary storage is not permitted, not allowed. Therefore, we will reorganise from the collection points, whether the waste will be taken to Bantargebang or to Rorotan,” Pramono explained in Central Jakarta on Friday. Pramono acknowledged that the landslide of waste piles at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) serves as a note for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in managing waste. At that time, Zone 4 had only been fully handled about 10 days prior. As a result, the waste was temporarily buried. Nevertheless, Pramono explained that the buried waste has now been transported away. Regarding the viral waste vehicle video, Pramono no longer permits temporary waste disposal sites. Pramono assessed that temporary waste disposal sites, as seen in the video, are inefficient. Additionally, according to him, their management is quite difficult and costly.
