The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is involving adolescents through the Pusat Informasi dan Konseling Remaja (PIK-R) programme in efforts to prevent violence from an early stage. “We also have a programme that we want to implement, namely PIK-R. This is driven by Generasi Berencana (GenRe) communities based in schools,” said the Head of the Dinas Pemberdayaan, Perlindungan Anak dan Pengendalian Penduduk (PPAPP) of DKI Jakarta, Dwi Oktavia, at RPTRA Citra Betawi Jakarta on Wednesday. Through this programme, she continued, adolescents are provided with various activities to enhance their capacity, knowledge, and to form attitudes and behaviours that are responsible. “They carry out activities to improve capacity, then knowledge, and also attitudes in shaping responsible adolescent behaviours, including among others for reproductive health and so on,” she stated. Regarding the effectiveness of the programme in reducing the number of violence cases against women and children, her side acknowledged that these efforts are still being carried out continuously. According to her, Jakarta’s character as a city with high population mobility presents its own challenges in building public awareness. She added that education on the mechanisms for reporting violence cases is also being intensified so that the public does not hesitate to report. The DKI Provincial Government hopes that with increasingly massive and structured socialisation, violence cases that have previously gone unreported can become more visible. The DKI Provincial Government urges the public to report immediately via the PPA hotline at 0852-1786-6445 or 0813-176-176-22 or through the Jakarta Siaga 112 service if they find suspected violence. The services provided by the Pusat Perlindungan Perempuan dan Anak (PPPA) of DKI Jakarta are given free of charge and are open 24 hours. Meanwhile, from January to December 2023, the DKI Jakarta PPAPP Department has handled 322 cases of violence against women and children. Of that number, psychological violence is the highest type, followed by sexual violence with 146 cases and physical violence.
