DKI Information Commission Views Information Openness as Foundation of Public Trust
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Information Commission, Luqman Hakim Arifin, believes that public information openness in Jakarta must not be viewed merely as an administrative obligation, but as the foundation for building trust between the government and the public.
“When information is opened, public participation grows, oversight strengthens, and public services become more dignified,” said Luqman in Jakarta on Thursday.
Luqman emphasised that the momentum of National Information Openness Day (HARKIN), commemorated every 30 April, reinforces the importance of public information openness, marked by the enactment of Law No. 14 of 2008.
According to him, Public Information Disclosure (KIP) serves as the primary foundation for realising good governance that is transparent, accountable, and oriented towards public services.
Luqman stated that in the context of Jakarta’s 500th anniversary journey, information openness is a crucial element in determining the city’s future direction.
“Marking Jakarta’s 500 years, we are not only talking about history, but also the future direction of this city. In that journey, public information openness can be the light that illuminates city governance to make it more advanced and truly serve,” he said.
Luqman added that the right to public information applies to all citizens, from the sub-district to provincial levels, and covers various public bodies, including educational institutions and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD).
According to him, in the rapidly developing digital era, public bodies are required not only to be open but also adaptive to the increasingly dynamic information needs of the public.
“Public information openness must become a momentum to improve information governance, especially amid artificial intelligence (AI) disruptions,” he said.
He also stressed that Jakarta needs not only a fast bureaucracy, but also an open bureaucracy.
Luqman called on all stakeholders to maintain the spirit of information openness.
