Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Information Commission (KI DKI) has explained that public bodies must maximise the management of digital public information services to provide ease for the community.

Deputy Chairman of KI DKI Jakarta, Luqman Hakim Arifin, in his statement on Tuesday, also mentioned that the digitalisation of public information services is one of the indicators in the implementation of E-Monitoring and Evaluation (E-Monev).

Nevertheless, according to him, one of the biggest mistakes that still often occurs is considering digitalisation sufficient by merely transferring documents to a website.

“We call this pseudo-digitalisation, where the appearance is digital, but the service does not change. This is mistaken,” said Luqman.

Luqman explained that the management of digital public information services must fulfil three aspects: first, accessible; second, accurate and up-to-date; third, engaging and easy to understand.

First, Luqman explained that any digital services owned by public bodies must be accessible to anyone and from any device, including by persons with disabilities.

“In other words, omnichannel access. That is the most important; public bodies must ensure that their digital services are accessible,” said Luqman.

Next, one of the obligations of public bodies is to update public information data. This is because outdated information risks harming the community.

“Outdated information actually creates disinformation. Therefore, the PPID (Public Information and Documentation Management Officer) of public bodies is responsible for updating public information data,” he said.

Then, regarding engaging and easy to understand, Luqman emphasised that the public is generally not accustomed to reading long technical documents or regulations. Therefore, a more creative presentation is needed in delivering public information documents.

“Creativity in presenting information must be carried out. Public bodies must be willing to package their information so that it truly reaches the community, not just made available,” said Luqman.

He also stated that creative presentation of public information can be done, for example, by using attractive infographics and diagrams to present budgets or service procedures.

“In addition, public bodies can create short videos to convey programmes and service education to the community,” said Luqman.

No less important, Luqman reminded that public information should be packaged with simple and easy-to-understand language.

“The right to information is truly fulfilled when the community can access, understand, and utilise it, not merely because the document is on the website,” said Luqman.
