DKI has Condet Cultural Centre to Preserve Traditions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has the Condet Cultural Centre building, which can be utilised by the community as a space to create arts and preserve traditions.
Head of the Art and Culture Performance Building Management Unit of the DKI Jakarta Culture Agency, Rinaldi, stated that performance spaces play an important role in the sustainability of a city for the contributions of national artists.
“The development of arts in Jakarta city is very important. Hopefully, the Condet Cultural Centre can continue to exist in presenting cultural arts performances in Jakarta, especially Betawi culture,” said Rinaldi in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
The Condet Cultural Centre, established around 1990, was formerly known as the Condet Dance and Gamelan Laboratory.
The building, managed by the DKI Jakarta Culture Agency through the Art and Culture Performance Building Management Unit, is equipped with performance facilities for the community in cultural arts activities.
These facilities include an amphitheatre with a capacity of 100 spectators, an aula measuring 10x9 metres, a performers’ waiting room, and toilets.
The building can also be utilised by other parties for organising cultural arts performances through the provincial government’s asset utilisation scheme, which does not interfere with the duties and functions of the Regional Work Unit, in accordance with applicable regulations.
According to Rinaldi, in addition to highlighting Betawi culture and the dual roles of Betawi women, the performances also reaffirm the identity of the Condet Cultural Centre as a place for artists to create and innovate in producing arts and preserving traditions.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Postgraduate Programme at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, Octavianus Cahyono Prianto, said that the Condet Cultural Centre plays an important role as a dance laboratory, particularly in introducing regional culture that is increasingly eroding.
“The existence of the Condet Cultural Centre can position itself as a cultural centre,” said Octavianus.
Furthermore, he stated that the Condet Cultural Centre has its own uniqueness, given its location close to the community.
He also expressed being impressed with the stage and entrance access that make it easy for the community to get involved in cultural arts activities.
“Of course, in the future, the Condet Cultural Centre must be able to arouse interest in part of the collective memory for the community,” Octavianus revealed.
