Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Education Department is targeting the resumption of teaching and learning activities (KBM) at SDN Tebet Barat 08 Pagi in South Jakarta to return to normal this week, after a wall collapsed due to erosion from rainwater during heavy rain. “Repairs will begin soon after the securing and cleaning stages are completed. The target is in the near term, at the latest this week,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Department Nahdiana when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. Nahdiana stated that her side is prioritising the recovery of supporting infrastructure so that face-to-face KBM can return to normal as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, her side has conducted checks on the building’s condition since Monday (4/5) evening when the incident occurred by a joint team. Initial results show damage limited to the boundary wall due to natural factors, not the main school building structure. “Routine audits of school building conditions are regularly carried out by the Education Department in collaboration with the Spatial Planning Department through school maintenance and rehabilitation programmes,” she said. Thus, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Education Department continues to monitor developments on the ground and is fully committed to supporting the acceleration of handling. “We prioritise the safety of all school community members and the surrounding public. Further information will be provided according to developments in the handling at the location,” she said. Year 6 pupils at SDN Tebet Barat 08 Pagi in South Jakarta continue to attend in-person semester exams, while Years 1-5 are learning online following the wall collapse due to erosion from rainwater during the rain. The South Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated that the cause of the wall collapse at SDN Tebet Barat 08 Pagi was due to the age of the building materials since 2015. From the assessment results of the wall, the building’s age is known to be old and weathered, and the lower part of the wall was eroded by water, so it is recommended to avoid access roads to not endanger the surrounding community. The initial incident of the school wall collapsing occurred on Monday (4/5) evening at 22.00 WIB and was handled at 22.30 WIB. Currently, handling is still ongoing with the installation of sandbags, tarps, and the transportation of building debris. Officers are also conducting tree felling prevention to avoid fallen trees. Her side ensured there were no casualties or evacuations and coordinated with related regional work units (UKPD). Losses are still in the process of being inventoried.
