The Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Special Committee on Waste Management, Judistira Hermawan, does not want the capital’s waste problem to be taken lightly or to attract scrutiny. He emphasised the importance of strengthening waste management at the source by intensifying waste bank programmes among the public.

“Do not let the waste problem become a concern for the President and the world, that we in Jakarta cannot manage waste properly,” said Judistira in his statement after visiting the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

Judistira explained that in the future, waste management policies will be focused at the source, so as not to depend on final disposal sites.

“We all agree; the instruments just need to be clarified through the special committee and can be applied immediately. Starting with intensifying what is called waste banks,” he stated.

In addition to waste banks, he also mentioned other methods that can be used to reduce waste volume, from composting to utilising maggots.

“Then there is also composting, and also maggots; the rest can go to TPST, RDF, or Bantargebang. All of this must be well distributed and can be applied until 2030,” he explained.

He added that the results of the special committee’s discussions will form the basis for future budget policies.

“Because we will soon discuss the 2027 Draft Regional Budget (RAPBD) and the 2026 revisions, so what we formulate in this special committee will be reported to the Governor,” he added.

Previously, environmental investigators from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) named former Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), Asep Kuswanto, as a suspect in the collapse of the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). The incident killed seven people.
