JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A member of the DKI DPRD from the PDI Perjuangan faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, has reminded new migrants to Jakarta after Eid al-Fitr 2026 not to become a burden.

Kenneth assessed that the presence of migrants can actually bring positive impacts to the capital if accompanied by intention, clear provisions, and readiness, rather than merely seeking fortune.

“So for migrants coming to Jakarta, they bring enthusiasm, open businesses, then can empower MSMEs, up to creating jobs,” Kenneth told Kompas.com on Sunday (29/3/2026).

Because, he reminded about the potential problems if the migrants do not have sufficient readiness.

“This must be a collective concern. I do not want migrants coming here (Jakarta) to end up becoming Pak Ogah, cart humans, or even getting involved in criminal acts,” said Kenneth.

Migrants from their hometowns to Jakarta are considered to be able to become part of the solution for the city, not adding to the social burden.

Kenneth also reminded that Jakarta is not just a place to seek livelihood, but a space to develop and contribute.

“Jakarta is not just a place to seek livelihood, but also a space to contribute and grow together,” he said.

“So, new migrants must really prepare themselves well. The main provision that must be possessed is skills, competence, as well as clear goals,” said Kenneth.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung predicted that the number of new migrants entering the Capital during the post-Eid return flow in 2026 could reach 10,000 to 12,000 people.

The figure is estimated to come from returnees to Jakarta who bring relatives or family members to seek work.

“So the data available up to today, we predict an increase of approximately returnees who follow their relatives back to Jakarta around 10 to 12 thousand,” said Pramono at Halte Tosari, Central Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).

Pramono emphasised that the figure is still tentative and not final.
