DKI DPRD Factions Give Input on Child-Friendly City Draft Regulation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A number of factions in the Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD DKI) have given input during the general deliberation of the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Implementation of a Child-Friendly Regency/City.

Abdul Aziz, Chair of the Regional Regulation Formation Body (Bapemperda) of the Jakarta DPRD, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday that the various inputs from the factions during the general deliberation would be clarified and accommodated in the substance of the draft regulation.

According to him, the factions’ general views form part of the council’s official forum, so every piece of input requires clarity in the deliberation process of the draft regulation.

He then expressed appreciation for the readiness of the Jakarta Child Empowerment, Protection and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) regarding the draft. Nevertheless, a number of points still need attention, one of which concerns the provisions on sanctions.

There are four regulations related to the affairs of the PPAPP Agency, namely the regional regulations on family development, women’s protection, population control, and child-friendly cities.

He expressed hope that these four regulations would contribute to improving the quality of human development in Jakarta.

The PPAPP Agency is therefore working to identify various potential threats to children, both in physical and digital spaces. “We are carrying out mitigation through this draft regulation,” said Dwi.

According to him, the regulation can ensure the fulfilment of children’s rights while at the same time protecting them from various risks of violence and criminal acts.

“We are striving to receive input from all parties who have a concern for children in Jakarta,” said Dwi.

The PPAPP Agency is also considering Jakarta’s future conditions. “We must also prepare for what conditions children in Jakarta will face in the next 20-30 years,” he said.

Going forward, the draft regulation will provide the conceptual framework and serve as a major commitment for child-friendly city implementation, while technical arrangements will be set out in gubernatorial regulations.

The PPAPP Agency has identified three Governor Regulations that will derive from the regional regulation, namely the Governor Regulation on the Implementation of Children’s Rights Fulfilment, the Governor Regulation on the Implementation of Special Protection for Children, and the Governor Regulation on the Implementation of a Child-Friendly Regency/City.

“We will regulate it in more detail later,” said Dwi.
