DKI deploys 1,400 cleaning staff for Labour Day commemoration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government deployed 1,400 cleaning staff during the International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration in the National Monument (Monas) field area on Friday (1/5) to keep the event location clean.
“This year’s May Day is a moment of collaboration among all elements. We want to ensure the activities run smoothly, comfortably, and Jakarta remains clean,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi, in Jakarta on Thursday.
The deployed cleaning staff are a combination from the Environmental Sub-Agencies in the five administrative city areas as well as the Water Body Waste Handling Unit (UPSBA).
The staff will work in two shifts, namely from 08:00–14:00 WIB and from 14:00 WIB until the activities conclude.
In addition to personnel, the Provincial Government also prepared various cleaning facilities placed in the Monas area, Monas park, and several parking pockets such as Banteng Field, Kemayoran, and the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area.
The facilities prepared include 18 road sweeper units, 12 inorganic truck units, 12 compactor truck units, 6 cross vehicles, 112 dustbins, 23 bus toilets, 23 portable toilets, and 1,400 plastic bags.
Additionally, there are segregated waste bins at several points consisting of easily degradable waste bins (food scraps), recyclable material waste bins (plastic, cardboard, etc.), and residual waste bins.
“Maintaining Jakarta’s cleanliness is a shared responsibility. We invite all May Day participants to dispose of waste in the proper places, sort waste, and maintain public facilities,” said Dudi.
He stated that this year’s Labour Day commemoration, estimated to be attended by around 300,000 workers and presided over by President Prabowo Subianto, is not only a moment to voice workers’ aspirations but also an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation among workers, the government, and the community in maintaining the city together.
