Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta states that the monthly inflation rate in Jakarta during months coinciding with Eid al-Fitr tends to be quite high, at least over the past five years.

“During months coinciding with Eid al-Fitr, there is always quite high inflation due to the increased demand for goods and services,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He mentioned that several commodities contributed significantly to the high inflation during the Eid al-Fitr period in 2022, which fell in May, namely chicken eggs, air transport, red onions, garlic, and rice with side dishes. The inflation rate for that month was 0.06 per cent.

In 2023, the commodities contributing the highest to inflation during Eid al-Fitr, which fell in April, were air transport, chicken meat, gold jewellery, chicken eggs, and intercity transport. The inflation rate for that month was 0.40 per cent.

In 2024, the commodities contributing to inflation during the Eid al-Fitr period, which fell in April, were gold jewellery, red onions, air transport, and intercity transport. The inflation figure for that month was 0.26 per cent.

“The high electricity tariff inflation in March 2025 occurred due to the end of the electricity tariff discount in the previous month,” said Kadarmanto.

In 2026, Eid al-Fitr falls in March, and several commodities whose prices are recorded to rise and contribute the highest to inflation include chicken meat, petrol, intercity transport, rice, and red chillies.

Meanwhile, Jakarta’s monthly inflation in March 2026 is 0.51 per cent, dominated by an increase in the price index of the food, beverages, and tobacco group by 1.46 per cent, contributing 0.30 per cent to inflation.

Kadarmanto said that various inflation-contributing commodities are expected to serve as a useful guide in efforts to control inflation during upcoming Eid al-Fitr periods.
