Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will begin revitalising the Old Town area to restore Jakarta’s identity while strengthening its position as a global city rooted in history and culture. The revitalisation plan was discussed at the “Intimate Dialogue Old Town Update” event with the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and their teams. “Here, we are providing assurance that the DKI Provincial Government is serious about developing Old Town. We already have the Old Town Revitalisation Team, and God willing, at the right time, I myself, as the person in charge, will have an office in Old Town,” said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and Chairman of the Old Town Revitalisation and Arrangement Team, Rano Karno, at City Hall on Thursday. Rano explained that the purpose of having an office there is to directly oversee the revitalisation process in the Old Town area. In addition, Rano stated that they have also formed a Working Group (Pokja) to ensure smooth coordination regarding the Old Town revitalisation. The Old Town revitalisation also involves experts who previously helped build the Old City in Semarang. Furthermore, Rano explained that in the revitalisation process, Old Town will be divided into three zones: core zone, development zone, and support zone. “What we will focus on first is the core zone. This area is approximately 363 hectares in total for Old Town, but the core zone is only about 80 hectares. However, the core zone also includes what is known as the Maritime Museum as part of the core zone. Then, Fatahillah Square,” Rano clarified. In addition, the Jakarta Government is prioritising the development of parking areas and street vendors (PKL) in the Old Town revitalisation process. According to Rano, both facilities are important so that the atmosphere in Old Town appears neat and does not disrupt the lives of the surrounding community.
