DKI Announces Free Rides on MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta Tomorrow
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has announced that all public transportation will be free tomorrow, Friday (24/4). DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that rides on MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta will be free to commemorate National Transportation Day. “Happy National Transportation Day, on 24 April this year, the DKI Jakarta Government welcomes Transportation Day by providing facilities for ease or free rides,” said Pramono, quoted from his official Instagram account, Thursday (23/4). According to him, this policy is taken because the DKI Provincial Government wants the public to switch from private transportation to public transportation. Thus, it is hoped that the number of public transportation users will increase and traffic congestion in the capital will continue to decline. “The Jakarta Government wants the public to become increasingly accustomed to using public transportation facilities owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” Pramono said. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of public transportation passengers in Jakarta in 2025 is dominated by TransJakarta with 37.6 million users in July 2025, followed by MRT with 4.3 million passengers in July 2025, then LRT with 118 thousand passengers in July 2025. The number of public transportation users is expected to increase further in the future.
