DJSN leadership change momentum to drive social security transformation

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has advised that the new leadership of the National Social Security Council (DJSN) must be capable of producing policies that are innovative, progressive, data-based, and in favour of the community groups most in need. “The DJSN must become the locomotive for quality social security; the DJSN must continue to be a mediator of various interests and challenges that arise. Let us cultivate harmony, coordination, synergy, and collaboration, and avoid ceremonial events, that is the President’s directive,” said Minister Muhaimin Iskandar in Jakarta on Monday. He made the statement while handing over the Presidential Decree on the Inter-Time Replacement of the Chair and Members of the National Social Security Council for the 2024–2029 term. Based on Presidential Decree Number 24/M of 2026, the President appointed Dyah Tri Kumolosari as Chair and Member of the DJSN for the 2024–2029 term. The leadership change momentum is expected to mark the beginning of a transformation in the implementation of the National Social Security System (SJSN) to become more adaptive, innovative, and capable of answering the community’s needs. “In line with Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2022, social security is a protection instrument so that the community does not fall into poverty due to health and occupational risks,” said Muhaimin Iskandar. He stressed that the DJSN has a strategic role as the architect of the National Social Security System, tasked with safeguarding the policy direction in accordance with the constitutional mandate. More than Rp56.4 trillion has been allocated to guarantee public health insurance services, while nearly Rp1,000 trillion in social security funds is managed to provide protection to workers from various occupational risks. He also reminded of the importance of maintaining the sustainability of social security funding. The potential deficit in social security funds must be anticipated through appropriate policies and various breakthrough measures so that it does not become an obstacle to public services. “The deficit must not become a time bomb; we must overcome it in the right way through various breakthrough steps that have a real impact,” said Muhaimin Iskandar. In the field of employment social security, the Coordinating Minister asked the DJSN to strengthen its supervisory function while encouraging service modernisation. According to him, innovation must be part of the transformation so that services become faster, easily accessible, and provide certainty for workers.
