REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance is targeting tax revenue of Rp200 trillion from efforts to expand the tax base. At a seminar titled “Looking Ahead to the 2026 Economic Outlook and Crafting Strategies to Secure State Revenue” in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026), Director General of Taxation Bimo Wijayanto explained that tax revenue that can be secured automatically each year amounts to around Rp1,800 trillion. Meanwhile, this year’s tax revenue target reaches Rp2,357.7 trillion. Therefore, DJP needs to undertake additional efforts to pursue revenue of about Rp560 trillion. “Each year, we can secure Rp1,800 trillion with the machine and policies ceteris paribus. To achieve Rp2,357.7 trillion, we still need Rp560 trillion, so extra efforts are required,” Bimo stated. He added that DJP cannot rely solely on the old tax base to meet that target. Therefore, Bimo is relying on tax extensification as one additional source of revenue. Bimo mentioned that of the total additional need of Rp560 trillion, around Rp200 trillion is targeted to come from expanding the tax base, which has not been optimally addressed so far. “From the additional need of Rp560 trillion, we are targeting Rp200 trillion from tax base expansion. Insya Allah, it can be achieved,” he added. The Director General of Taxation is deploying around 530 tax service offices to explore tax base potential. DJP will process the old tax base into comparative data used to test the calculation, reporting, and payment of taxes by taxpayers.
