The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) in East Java has seized 230 assets belonging to tax delinquents with an estimated value of IDR 24.9 billion. Johny Victor, Head of the Examination, Collection, Intelligence, and Investigation Division at the DJP East Java II Regional Office, stated that the simultaneous ‘Seizure Week’ activity from 22 to 26 June 2026 involved the DJP East Java I, II, and III Regional Offices and targeted 158 tax delinquents with total outstanding debts reaching IDR 621.2 billion. “Tax collection is fundamentally aimed at encouraging the settlement of tax obligations in accordance with applicable regulations, and before seizure actions are taken, taxpayers have been given the opportunity to fulfil their obligations,” Johny said. According to Johny, the activity also serves as an educational tool for the public to understand that the tax collection process is carried out in stages and is based on legal provisions. He stressed that seizure is not a sudden action, as it is preceded by various stages of collection, starting from the delivery of appeals, warning letters, to forced letters. Seizure actions are taken if the taxpayer or tax guarantor has not settled their tax debt after being given the opportunity to fulfil their obligations according to the regulations. All assets seized in this activity were the result of asset tracing by State Tax Bailiffs and have met the legal requirements for seizure. The collection action refers to Law Number 19 of 1997 concerning Tax Collection with Forced Letters, as amended by Law Number 19 of 2000, and Minister of Finance Regulation Number 61 of 2023. He stated that the DJP emphasises that seizure is not the end of the tax debt resolution process, as taxpayers still have the opportunity to settle their obligations so that the collection process does not proceed to the next stage. Head of the DJP East Java II Regional Office, Arridel Mindra, stated that the DJP opens communication and consultation channels for taxpayers. He urged taxpayers to immediately coordinate with the tax office to resolve their tax obligations cooperatively, thereby providing certainty and avoiding further collection actions.
