DJKI Shuts Down 1,004 Piracy Websites in the Digital Sphere, from Digital Books to Comics
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has closed 1,004 websites that violated copyright between 1 January 2025 and 11 May 2026.
“In 2025, the most common violations came from websites providing pirated films and TV series, with a total of 401 sites,” said Director General of Intellectual Property, Hermansyah Siregar, in a written statement on Friday (15/5/2026).
Hermansyah said that during the same period, his office also closed 258 websites that contained pirated digital books, webtoons, and digital comics, 198 websites that violated broadcasting or broadcasting rights, and 28 other websites related to various forms of copyright infringement.
He said that as of 11 May 2026, the Directorate of Law Enforcement had closed 119 copyright infringement websites, most of which were pirated film and TV series websites, totaling 61 sites.
According to Hermansyah, closing piracy websites is a concrete step by the state in creating a healthy digital ecosystem and respecting creative works.
“Digital piracy not only harms creators and copyright holders, but also hinders the growth of the national creative economy. Therefore, DJKI continues to strengthen supervision and law enforcement so that the works of the nation’s children receive proper protection in the digital sphere,” he said.
Director of Law Enforcement, Arie Ardian Rishadi, said that the handling of violation reports was carried out based on the mechanisms set out in the regulations.
He said that each report is processed through the stages of receiving the report, verification, recommendations for closure, to the execution of rapid, precise, and measurable access termination.
“These steps are taken to ensure that copyright protection runs effectively while maintaining the creative economy ecosystem from the impact of digital piracy,” said Arie.
Finally, Arie invited copyright holders and the public to actively participate in combating digital piracy by reporting websites that contain pirated content.
“Requests for recommendations for closing websites can be submitted through the DJKI complaint page at pengaduan.dgip.go.id,” he said.
