DJKA Case: KPK Examines Director General of Ministry of Transportation Risal Wasal Regarding Sudewo's Role
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) examined the Director General of Transport Integration and Multimodal at the Ministry of Transportation, Mohamad Risal Wasal, on 23 April 2026, to investigate the role of Sudewo (SDW).
Sudewo is one of the suspects in the alleged bribery case involving the construction and maintenance of railway tracks within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) at the Ministry of Transportation.
“Investigators are delving into matters related to the arrangement, conditioning, and plotting (allocation) of prospective providers for work within the Central Java Railway Technical Office and the East Java Railway Technical Office, particularly those conducted by the suspect SDW,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
Furthermore, Budi stated that the KPK is also probing the role of a member of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2019-2024 period, who liaised with the Ministry of Transportation, by examining a commitment-making official from the Ministry of Transportation named Ari Hendratno on 24 April 2026.
Previously, the case came to light following a raid operation (OTT) conducted by the KPK on 11 April 2023 at the Class I Railway Technical Office for the Central Java Region of the DJKA at the Ministry of Transportation.
At present, the Class I Railway Technical Office for the Central Java Region has been renamed to the Class I Semarang Railway Technical Office.
The KPK then designated 10 individuals as suspects, who were immediately detained, in connection with the alleged corruption case involving railway track construction and maintenance projects in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.
As of 20 January 2026, the KPK has designated and detained a total of 21 suspects. The KPK has also designated two corporations as suspects in the case.
The alleged criminal corruption case pertains to projects including the construction of the double-track railway line from Solo Balapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso; railway track construction projects in Makassar, South Sulawesi; four railway track construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampegan Cianjur, West Java; and the repair project for level crossings in Java-Sumatra.
In the construction and maintenance of these projects, it is alleged that certain parties arranged the winning contractors through manipulation from the administrative process to the determination of the tender winner.
Meanwhile, Sudewo was designated as a suspect in the DJKA Ministry of Transportation case on 20 January 2026. This designation occurred after he was caught in a KPK raid while serving as Regent of Pati.
