DJI Romo Officially Launched in Indonesia, a 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum Using Drone-Derived Technology
DJI, the drone manufacturer, has introduced the DJI Romo Series in Indonesia. The device is not a drone; it is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum cleaner that can sweep and mop floors automatically.
One of the main capabilities of the DJI Romo is to recognise various household objects during cleaning. With this capability, the robot is claimed to avoid objects on the floor so as not to be blocked or stop while working.
The device is able to detect a range of objects such as socks, LEGO bricks, electrical cables, chargers, and even liquids spilled like sauce or drinks.
The robot is even claimed to have the ability to recognise differences in floor height and door thresholds. This capability allows the cleaning path to run stably without interference or manual intervention.
The technology uses a combination of sensors such as a dual fisheye vision sensor 170-degree ultrawide, dual-source 3D ToF solid-state LiDAR located at the front and back of the device, and a chip equipped with DSP, NPU, and machine learning perception.
DJI claims that the integration of these technologies enables the device to detect small objects down to 30 x 15 x 10 mm in size, as well as cables up to 2 mm thick, with millimetre-level precision and millisecond response.
In terms of cleaning performance, DJI Romo is equipped with suction power up to 25,000 Pa produced by a proprietary motor with 9 metal blade fans and an airflow channel designed to maximise airflow.
The robot is also equipped with AI-based recognition features to identify the type of dirt detected on the floor, such as cat litter or food crumbs.
This 2-in-1 vacuum cleaner also automatically increases suction and adjusts the speed of the side brush so that dirt does not scatter.
DJI Romo also comes with dual independent main brushes with two separate motors designed to push hair toward the centre and directly suck it up.
This system aims to prevent tangling and eliminates the need for manual cleaning of the roller brush.
To ensure thorough cleaning even into room corners, DJI Romo is equipped with a side brush mechanism and a mop that can extend automatically when approaching corners.
DJI Romo is also equipped with carpet detection system that allows the device to automatically adjust the cleaning mode. When the robot passes over a carpet, the mop will be lifted so the carpet is not wetted during the cleaning process.
