DJBC Seizes 1.2 Billion Illegal Cigarettes Through September 2026
Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has said that the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) has seized 1.2 billion illegal cigarettes through September 2026.
The enforcement actions numbered 15,307, an increase of 9.2 per cent year on year (yoy).
“We have now secured 1.2 billion illegal cigarettes. So that you can appreciate it, 1.2 billion sticks up to last September,” Suahasil said in Jakarta on Thursday.
The seizures were carried out by the DJBC in cooperation with relevant law enforcement agencies.
Beyond illegal cigarettes, the DJBC has also taken action against narcotics trafficking. Through September 2026, it recorded 1,284 enforcement actions, with total evidence seized amounting to 11.27 tonnes.
Suahasil also reported that the DJBC had carried out 94 actions against illegal gold smuggling, with total seized evidence reaching 353 kilograms.
“Many people are smuggling gold out of Indonesia, by air and through sea ports. There are 353 kilograms of gold of various types, from flakes and powder to chunks and various other forms,” Suahasil explained.
“It is fine to take gold abroad. Gold exports are a good thing, but do it with proper documentation and good governance,” he added.
The minister further said the Ministry of Finance, through the DJBC, would continue to act against illegal goods and activities in order to maintain economic stability.
Economic stability, he argued, is maintained not only through macroeconomic and fiscal indicators but also by protecting legitimate economic activity from harmful illegal practices.
“Of course we carry out these enforcement actions together with other officers: the police, the TNI and the BNN. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise also participates alongside them,” said the State Treasurer.
