Djarot: Jokowi's Regional Travels Strengthen PDI-P Unity

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - DPP PDI-P Chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat stated that President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) planned visits to various regions would not weaken his party. On the contrary, Djarot believes the agenda would strengthen PDI-P, even at the grassroots level. ‘His presence in several regions actually makes our party more united. The party will become stronger internally and in reaching the grassroots,’ Djarot said after the PDI-P Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Technical Guidance (Bimtek) event on Saturday, 30 May 2026. Djarot added that PDI-P does not object to Jokowi accepting invitations from communities across the country. ‘Let him travel wherever he wishes, freely,’ said the former Jakarta governor. However, Djarot touched on the ongoing public debate regarding Jokowi’s academic qualifications. He argued the issue should be resolved by Jokowi himself. ‘But he must explain and present his diploma to assure the public it is genuine. Show the diploma,’ Djarot stated. ‘The simplest approach is to avoid drama. No court theatrics. If asked about my diploma, I’d simply show it,’ he added. Djarot suggested presenting the original diploma could neutralise the public controversy. ‘Perhaps showing the genuine diploma would help resolve the ongoing debate. So, go ahead,’ he said. Previously reported, Jokowi confirmed his health has recovered and he is ready to attend various regional invitations. ‘Yes, I have many invitations from regions to attend community events. I’m now healthy and will visit these invitations,’ Jokowi said at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, Central Java, on Monday, 24 May 2026. PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus stated Jokowi will soon visit regions including Lampung, NTT, and West Java. According to Bestari, besides fulfilling public invitations, Jokowi is scheduled to meet PSI regional officials and volunteers. ‘Insha Allah, he will also visit PSI structures in the regions. There are mentions of him meeting volunteers,’ Bestari said.
