Djamin reelected as Unimed rector
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Prof. Djanius Djamin was reelected as rector of Medan State University (Unimed) after garnering 43 out of a possible 47 votes, for the second term in a senate meeting in Medan on Wednesday.
The professor defeated two other nominees, Buranuddin and Irwandy, with ease as they gained only three votes and one vote respectively in the closed session to elect the rector of Unimed, previously known as Medan IKIP (teachers college).
Unimed spokesman Chairul Azmi said following the election that the meeting had proceeded according to required procedures and the three candidates revealed their vision and mission for the university's future development.
After being elected for the period 2002-2007, Djanius Djamin said he would strive for improving the quality of education particularly in connection with the fundamental transformation from a teaching institute into a university. --JP
