DIY Weather Forecast Today: Malioboro Hit by Heavy Rain

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) DIY released the weather forecast for the DIY region today, Friday (6 March 2026). Rainfall remains relatively high in the DIY region, with some areas potentially experiencing heavy rain accompanied by lightning.

Yogyakarta City

According to posts on the official BMKG DIY Instagram account, @infobmkgyia, heavy rain is forecast to drench the entire Yogyakarta City area from midday, including the Malioboro area. It will be followed by lighter rain.

Sleman

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder is predicted to drench all of Sleman from midday, including the Prambanan temple area and its surroundings. Also in Kaliurang, up to the slopes of Mount Merapi, namely Pakem, Turi, and Cangkringan districts.

Bantul

Light to moderate rain is forecast to drench parts of Bantul from midday. However, along the coastal tourist areas across Bantul such as Parangtritis Beach rain is expected in the afternoon.

Kulon Progo

Light rain is forecast to drench much of Kulon Progo from midday. Yet along Kulon Progo’s coastal tourist areas such as Glagah Beach, up to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), rain is expected in the afternoon.

Meanwhile in the Menoreh Hills area such as Samigaluh, heavy rain with thunder could pour from midday, followed by lighter rain afterward.

Gunungkidul

All areas of Gunungkidul are not expected to rain today; the weather is forecast to be sunny to partly cloudy throughout the day. This includes coastal tourist areas across Gunungkidul such as Indrayanti Beach.
