DIY Weather Forecast Today: Heavy Rain Expected on the Southern Coast

The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) DIY branch issued the forecast for the DIY region today. Heavy rainfall with the potential for intense storms and lightning is expected along the Southern Coast from morning. According to the official BMKG DIY Instagram account, @infobmkgyia, on Thursday 5 March 2026, light rainfall is forecast to blanket the entire Yogyakarta City from the morning, including the Malioboro area.

In Sleman, light to moderate rain is forecast across most areas from the afternoon, except near Prambanan temple complex and its environs where rain could begin in the morning. In the Kaliurang area up to the Merapi slopes, i.e., Kapanewon Pakem, Kapanewon Turi, and Kapanewon Cangkringan, moderate rain is forecast from the afternoon.

In Bantul, light rain is forecast to blanket the entire area all day, but coastal tourist areas across Bantul such as Parangtritis Beach may see heavy rain with lightning from the morning.

In Kulon Progo, light to moderate rain is expected to affect most of the area throughout the day, including the Menoreh Hills region such as Samigaluh and Girimulyo. However coastal tourist beaches such as Glagah and the area around Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) may see heavy rain with lightning from the morning, followed by lighter showers later.

In Gunungkidul, light rain is expected to be widespread across the region from the morning. However coastal tourist areas such as Indrayanti Beach may experience heavy rain with lightning from the morning.
