Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Tourism Office (Dinpar) of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) assesses that fashion commodities in Yogyakarta are one of the most potentially developable sub-sectors of the creative economy (ekraf) for the future, particularly as a contributor to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB).

Head of Creative Economy Development at Dinpar DIY, Iwan Pramana, stated that this view is reinforced by data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024, which shows the creative economy sector contributed 11.8 percent to DIY’s PDRB.

‘The DIY regional government sees fashion as a creative economy sub-sector that is not merely a trend, but an industry of the future. BPS data for 2024 shows the creative economy sector contributed 11.8 percent to DIY’s PDRB,’ Iwan said in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, from that achievement, the fashion and craft sub-sectors are the second-largest contributors after culinary. ‘Fashion and crafts are the second-largest contributors after culinary, with a total of 15,000 fashion business operators and 97 percent of them being MSMEs,’ he stated.

He mentioned that the main challenge for this industry lies not in a lack of creative ideas, but rather in access to markets and capital.
