Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Regional Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is shaping the character of the younger generation into jalma kang utama or individuals of noble character through Pendidikan Khas Kejogjaan, an education programme based on Yogyakarta’s culture. “Today’s launch is an important milestone indicating that Pendidikan Khas Kejogjaan has progressed from an idea to a real movement, from concept to implementation,” said DIY Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X in his speech at the launch of Pendidikan Khas Kejogjaan at SMAN 6 Yogyakarta on Monday. Therefore, Sri Sultan called on all stakeholders, from educators, education personnel, parents, to the wider community, to jointly bring these values to life in everyday life. The DIY Governor stated that amid the rapid flow of global changes, education faces no small challenges. The challenge is not only how to produce intelligent people, but also how to shape complete individuals. “Because advances in science and technology, without being accompanied by maturity in values, can cause humans to lose direction, even to become detached from their own cultural roots,” he said. In this context, Yogyakarta chooses its path and believes that education should not be understood merely as a teaching process, but also as a process of enculturation. According to the Sultan, this movement stems from the noble philosophy of Hamemayu Hayuning Bawana, which guides humans to maintain harmony between humans, nature, and God. “From there, education is directed not only to produce clever people, but also individuals capable of maintaining life’s balance, possessing social sensitivity, and being responsible towards their environment,” he said. The DIY Governor stated that Pendidikan Khas Kejogjaan also reminds us that education does not only take place in schools, but also lives in the Tri Sentra Pendidikan, namely family, school, and community. It even relies on Yogyakarta’s distinctive synergy, namely Keraton, Kampus, and Kampung, which form a living ecosystem for the growth of the generation’s character. Through Pendidikan Khas Kejogjaan, Sri Sultan said, the regional government is essentially providing a shared space where values, culture, and learning meet in living practices.
