DIY Regional Police Investigate Alleged Medical Negligence at Regional Hospital Following Death of Three-Year-Old

The Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda DIY) have received an official report regarding alleged medical negligence at a Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) in Yogyakarta, which led to the death of a three-year-old child.

“The police report (LP) has been received, and it is currently in the investigation stage,” stated the Head of Public Relations for Polda DIY, Kombes Pol Ihsan, in Yogyakarta on Tuesday. He added that the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of Polda DIY is currently conducting investigations and plans to summon several witnesses related to the case. He noted that further updates would be provided once the case progresses, for instance, if it is elevated to the formal investigation stage.

According to the report received, the reported party is a director at one of the regional hospitals in Yogyakarta.

Separately, Purnomo Susanto, from the Legal Aid Division of the Yogyakarta Advocate Brotherhood Forum, stated that he is assisting Anastasia Niken Purwandari, the complainant and mother of the victim, through the initial examination process at Ditreskrimsus Polda DIY. “The full details of the incident have been submitted by our client to the investigators,” said Purnomo.

He mentioned that his client has undergone two rounds of questioning, the first on 17 May 2026 involving 14 questions, and a second session today involving 28 questions.

Regarding the chronology, the child, NDM (3), had undergone medical examinations at the hospital following a referral from a local health post (Posyandu). The child first underwent an examination in March, after which multivitamins were prescribed. On 27 April 2026, a follow-up check was conducted to monitor the child’s head circumference, which had been flagged by health workers at 46 centimetres. However, the follow-up examination revealed no significant progress in the child’s condition.
